PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has intensified dengue prevention and public awareness activities as the number of confirmed cases continues to rise across the province.
According to the latest reported figures, confirmed dengue cases increased from 392 to 478, with 86 new infections recorded during one week. Health officials said the province is entering the period when dengue transmission typically becomes more active.
Peshawar remains one of the major affected areas, while Kohat has also reported a significant number of infections. Authorities have therefore increased surveillance and community-level awareness campaigns in areas considered vulnerable to mosquito breeding.
More than 15,000 lady health workers have been deployed to visit communities and educate residents about eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Officials are advising people to remove stagnant water from homes, rooftops and other areas and to take measures to prevent mosquito bites.
The provincial health department is also carrying out larval surveillance, screening and control activities under the Dengue Action Plan 2026.
Officials have said that despite the rise in cases, there is currently no indication of a province-wide dengue outbreak. However, they have stressed that public cooperation remains essential to prevent further transmission.
