ISLAMABAD: The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent five trucks carrying over 300,000 essential medical items to support emergency health services across Pakistan before the start of the monsoon season this Friday.

The supplies include more than 2,400 boxes of medicines and medical tools, which will be placed in advance in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

These efforts are part of Pakistan’s Monsoon Contingency Plan 2025, aimed at helping 1.3 million vulnerable people in 33 high-risk districts.

WHO Representative Dr. Dapeng Luo said the goal is to ensure a quick response to health crises caused by extreme weather. He stressed WHO’s commitment to helping Pakistan deal with climate-related challenges.

According to the Global Climate Risk Index 2021, Pakistan was the 8th most affected country by extreme weather from 2000 to 2019.

Monsoon floods continue to be the most frequent and damaging, affecting lives, health, and infrastructure.
