Brydon Carse to Face No Charges After Police Close Nightclub Assault Investigation

England fast bowler Brydon Carse will face no criminal charges after Derbyshire Police closed their investigation into an alleged assault at a nightclub in Derby, England. Police confirmed that the inquiry had been concluded and that no further action would be taken.

The incident occurred in the early hours of August 23, 2026, at Molly Malones nightclub on the Wardwick in Derby. Carse had been out with his Durham teammates following a County Championship match. Police attended the venue and Carse was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. He was later “de-arrested” after providing his details and agreeing to leave the area.

Derbyshire Police subsequently investigated an allegation of assault connected with the incident. After identifying and speaking with the alleged victim, police decided to close the investigation without taking further action. The decision means Carse will not face criminal proceedings over the alleged assault.

However, the matter is not completely over for the England cricketer. A separate investigation by the independent Cricket Regulator remains ongoing to determine whether Carse could face disciplinary action under cricket’s regulations.

The incident had already affected Carse’s international career. He was removed from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan and was also omitted from the third Test. Despite being available for England’s ongoing white-ball series against Sri Lanka, he was not selected for the squad.

Carse, 31, has continued playing domestic cricket for Durham since the incident and helped the side secure the County Championship Division Two title. His future England selection, however, remains a separate matter from the police investigation and could depend on the outcome of the Cricket Regulator’s review.
