Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stressed the importance of uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe and expeditious passage of ships during a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers discussed the latest regional developments amid continuing concerns over disruptions to maritime traffic and energy supplies. Dar highlighted the importance of keeping energy flows uninterrupted, particularly because disruptions can have significant consequences for developing countries and global supply chains.
Dar also called for the safe and speedy movement of commercial vessels. Maritime disruptions in key regional waterways have raised concerns for international trade, energy markets and the availability of essential goods. The International Maritime Organization has separately warned about the risks facing ships and seafarers operating in the Strait of Hormuz.
During the conversation, Dar emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means of ensuring peace and stability in the region. Pakistan has repeatedly called for diplomatic engagement to address regional tensions and prevent further disruption to trade and energy supplies.
The two foreign ministers also agreed to maintain close cooperation and coordination on regional matters. They decided to meet in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is scheduled to bring world leaders and senior officials together next week.
The phone call comes as the wider region continues to face serious security and maritime challenges. Any prolonged disruption to major shipping routes could affect energy supplies, transportation costs and global supply chains, making the safe movement of commercial vessels an important concern for countries dependent on international trade.
