A judicial magistrate in Karachi has rejected the bail application of television anchor and Awam Raj Tehreek chief Iqrar-ul-Hassan.
The case was registered by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, NCCIA, over allegations of sharing anti-state content on social media under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.
Iqrar-ul-Hassan was sent to jail on judicial remand on October 19 after the court declined to extend his physical remand. The court also directed the NCCIA to submit the case challan within 14 days.
Following the rejection of bail on October 22, his lawyer said the defence would approach the Sindh High Court after receiving the detailed court order.
The case has sparked debate over freedom of expression and the application of cybercrime laws in Pakistan.
The allegations against Iqrar-ul-Hassan remain subject to legal proceedings.
