Around 200 passengers aboard a residential cruise ship have been left stranded in Cambodia after its operator suspended the vessel’s world voyage due to soaring fuel costs.
The ship, named Villa Vie Odyssey, arrived at the Cambodian port of Sihanoukville on October 23. Passengers were later told to leave the ship as the company struggled with rising operating expenses.
According to reports, monthly fuel costs per cabin have surged from an average of around 1,800 dollars to as much as 8,000 dollars in parts of Asia.
The US-based operator says it is working to arrange temporary accommodation while exploring financial restructuring options.
The suspension has left many passengers uncertain about their travel plans and when the ship’s global journey might resume.
