The cryptocurrency world is facing a major security crisis after Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, reported a security breach with an estimated impact of 6.3 billion dollars.
Binance’s initial investigation suggests that hackers may have gained access through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer, allowing them to carry out unauthorized transactions.
Around 3 billion dollars in affected assets have reportedly been frozen with help from other crypto companies. The remaining 3.3 billion dollars is still being traced.
Blockchain analysis firms have linked the attack with a North Korean hacking group, although the investigation is ongoing.
Binance says it will cover the losses and protect customer funds. The incident has raised serious questions about security across the cryptocurrency industry.
