Security forces killed 17 terrorists during two separate intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, the military’s media wing reported. The intense firefights, occurring in the Mastung and Kech districts, also claimed the life of a soldier.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the operations targeted militant hideouts following credible intelligence reports. In Mastung, security personnel neutralized 12 terrorists after a fierce exchange of fire. Another operation in Kech resulted in the deaths of five militants.
Lance Naik Abdul Qadeer, 32, died during the Mastung operation. He had been serving in the military for over a decade. The ISPR stated that the soldier fought with “utmost gallantry” before succumbing to his injuries.
The operations come at a time of heightened security tensions in the province. Balochistan has seen a surge in attacks targeting both security personnel and civilian infrastructure. Military commanders maintain that these operations are part of a broader, ongoing effort to dismantle militant networks operating in the region.
Clearance operations continue in the area to sanitize the sites and ensure no remaining threats exist. Officials have yet to release the identities of the killed militants or confirm which specific outfits they were affiliated with, though the region remains a primary theater for various separatist and extremist groups.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace in Balochistan, stating that the “sacrifice of our brave soldiers further strengthens our resolve.”
Security analysts view these operations as a tactical shift toward proactive targeting rather than reactive defense. However, the recurring loss of life underscores the challenges of stabilizing the province while militant groups continue to find sanctuary in remote, mountainous terrain.
