Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) is set to review its 2025–26 Climate Change Action Plan, outlining a comprehensive strategy to advance the district’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.
Building upon the climate emergency declaration made in June 2019 and the subsequent Climate Change Strategy approved in October 2021, the new action plan delineates ten priority initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability across the district.
Key initiatives include:
Supporting the decarbonisation of temporary accommodation properties
Installing solar carports to harness renewable energy
Implementing energy efficiency improvements throughout the district
Claire Malcolmson, MVDC’s Cabinet Member for Climate Change, emphasized the council’s integrated approach, stating, “Over the coming year, the climate change agenda will thread through all services at MVDC.”
The action plan also introduces an expanded baseline and a new methodology, enabling the council to set net-zero targets that comprehensively reflect its environmental impact.
The proposed plan will be discussed at the council’s Scrutiny Committee meeting on June 3 and is scheduled for consideration by the Cabinet on June 17.
