Simple Sitting and Standing Test May Predict Life Expectancy, Study Finds

A new study from Brazil has found that a simple test of sitting down and standing up without using hands or knees can help predict a person’s life expectancy.

Researchers from the Exercise Medicine Clinic in Rio de Janeiro studied over 4,000 people aged between 46 and 75.

They asked participants to sit on the floor and then stand up without any support. The test checked balance, strength, and flexibility.

The results showed that those who did well in the test were more likely to live longer. People who struggled with the test or needed support were more likely to face health issues and had a higher risk of early death.

The study lasted 12 years and was published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.

Experts say this easy test is not a replacement for full medical checkups but can give quick information about a person’s health. Doctors may use it to find early signs of fitness problems, especially in areas with limited medical resources.
