Colombo — Pakistan’s seasoned cueist Mohammad Asif’s impressive run at the Asian 6-Red Snooker Championship came to an end on Tuesday after a tough semi-final loss against Malaysia’s Thor Chuan Leong.

Asif, a two-time former IBSF world champion, carried the hopes of the nation as the last Pakistani remaining in the prestigious tournament, held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. However, despite his consistent form in earlier rounds, he couldn’t get past the in-form Malaysian, eventually losing 5-2 in the best-of-nine frames encounter.

The match saw Thor Chuan Leong, a former professional player with solid international experience, dominate crucial frames with tactical precision. Asif managed to pull back a couple of frames, but the Malaysian’s aggressive play and solid potting proved too much in the end.

Earlier in the tournament, Asif had displayed remarkable skill and composure, notching up convincing wins to book his place among the final four. His semi-final appearance ensures Pakistan maintains its presence on the Asian snooker map, though the nation will have to wait for another shot at the title.

Speaking after the match, Asif acknowledged the tough challenge. “I gave it my all, but sometimes the opponent simply plays better on the day,” he said. “I’m proud to have reached the semis, but of course, I wanted to go further.”

Thor Chuan Leong will now advance to the final, where he’ll compete for the coveted Asian 6-Red title.

Despite the defeat, snooker enthusiasts in Pakistan have praised Asif’s performance, with many hoping his experience and fighting spirit will inspire younger players to follow in his footsteps.

The Asian 6-Red Championship continues to grow as one of the region’s most competitive cue sports events, attracting top talent from across Asia.
