Karachi – A three-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the recent building collapse in Lyari, which claimed 27 lives. According to details, the Deputy Commissioner of South Karachi has set up the committee, which will be led by the Assistant Commissioner South. Based on the findings of this committee, a case will be registered.

Sources said that officers from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) will also be investigated. The committee has asked for the notice that SBCA issued earlier, declaring the building dangerous. It will be verified whether the notice was properly displayed and who received it.

The committee raised several questions, including:

  • Was the notice received by anyone officially?
  • Did SBCA inform K-Electric to disconnect the electricity supply?
  • Was the Water Board asked to stop water and sewage services?
  • Did SBCA request Sui Gas authorities to disconnect the gas supply to the unsafe building?

The collapse occurred in the Baghdadi area of Lyari, killing 27 people, including 16 men, 9 women, and 2 children. Most of the victims belonged to the Hindu community. Over 50 rickshaws and motorcycles parked nearby were also damaged under the debris.

The committee will now gather evidence and investigate the negligence that led to this tragic incident. Further action will be taken based on its findings.
