A modern device, the Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer, has been introduced at Civil Hospital Karachi for the immediate diagnosis of jaundice in newborns.
According to sources, pediatric specialist Professor Iqbal Memon stated that with the help of the Transcutaneous Bilirubinometer, the level of jaundice can be determined within a few seconds, and the test can be performed without taking the baby’s blood. Previously, test results were available after several hours, but now results will be provided immediately, which will assist in treating jaundice affected babies with phototherapy.
According to media reports, Professor Iqbal Memon said that higher levels of jaundice can lead to complications, and modern machines will save both time and money for parents.
