Karachi, January 4: The Sindh Chapter Convocation of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) was held at Bahria Auditorium Karsaz, Karachi, with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah as the chief guest and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood hosting the event. Degrees were awarded to successful graduates, and the arrangements of the ceremony were widely appreciated.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s academic association with AIOU is a clear proof of the university’s prestige and excellence. He added that she was once a student of the university, which is a matter of pride for the institution and the entire nation.

He further said that Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto envisioned an institution that could bring education to common citizens, and that distance learning—once a new concept—has now become a global reality.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood stated that AIOU is providing quality and reliable educational services in Sindh. He informed that the number of students in Sindh has surpassed 120,000, reflecting strong public trust in the university.

He also pledged to expand AIOU’s network in Karachi and other parts of Sindh and to establish new model study centers to ensure access to quality education for students in remote areas.

The event was attended by the university’s deans, faculty members, principal officers, regional heads, education representatives, and prominent social figures.
