CUPERTINO, California: Apple has introduced a range of artificial intelligence-powered features in iOS 27, aiming to make everyday tasks easier, safer and more automated for iPhone users.
The announcement came during the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where the upgraded AI-enhanced Siri attracted significant attention. However, Apple emphasized that its AI technology extends far beyond the voice assistant and will be integrated across multiple apps and services.
Among the most notable additions is an automatic bill-splitting feature. Users can simply take a photo of a restaurant receipt, and Apple Intelligence will analyze the bill, including tips and taxes, to calculate each person’s share.
The update also strengthens password security by identifying weak or compromised passwords and helping users replace them with stronger alternatives automatically.
In the Messages app, a new “One-Tap Suggestions” feature can recognize tasks mentioned in conversations and recommend adding them to Reminders. It can also suggest relevant photos or calendar events when users discuss sharing memories or planning meetups.
Another feature, called Call Context, provides helpful information during phone calls with businesses or institutions. For example, when contacting an airline, the system can automatically display booking details and confirmation codes retrieved from emails.
Apple is also introducing a smarter Calendar experience. Users can describe an event in plain language, and AI will automatically create a calendar entry complete with time, location, contacts and other relevant details.
The company has enhanced the Shortcuts app as well, allowing users to automate complex actions through simple instructions. Examples include sending an estimated arrival time to family members when leaving home or activating smart home devices based on specific conditions.
For smart home users, the Home app will use AI to combine multiple notifications into a single important alert, helping reduce notification overload.
Meanwhile, Safari will gain intelligent tab management, automatically organizing open tabs by topic to make browsing more efficient.
Apple said privacy remains a key focus, with most AI processing taking place directly on users’ devices to help protect personal information.
The new features are currently available in the developer beta, while a public beta is expected to launch soon. The full release of iOS 27 is scheduled for later this year.
