Flash floods and rain related incidents have claimed at least eight lives in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), with several still missing and many others displaced.
In a tragic incident in the Babusar Pass area of Gilgit’s Ghizer district, flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and landslides swept away eight tourist vehicles. Three people were confirmed dead, four were rescued, and over 15 are still unaccounted for, prompting a large-scale search and rescue operation. Authorities say one rescued person remains in critical condition.
According to officials, the Babusar road has been severely damaged, and rising river levels have disrupted the region’s communication network. Thousands of tourists are stranded, unable to contact their families. Locals have stepped in to rescue and shelter many of those affected.
Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq confirmed the mobilization of all available resources for the ongoing rescue and relief efforts, assuring that teams are working continuously to locate the missing and provide aid to stranded tourists.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district, five children lost their lives in two separate rain-related tragedies. Rescue 1122 reported that three children died when a roof collapsed during heavy rains, while two others were swept away by a rainwater drain.
K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring them of full government support during this difficult time.
Authorities in both regions continue rescue operations and are coordinating with local communities to ensure the safety and shelter of all affected individuals.
