ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has stepped down from four standing committees of the National Assembly in line with party founder Imran Khan’s instructions.

Gohar resigned from the committees on Law and Justice, Human Rights, Information Technology, and the House Business Advisory. His decision comes as part of PTI’s broader political strategy to distance itself from parliamentary forums and boycott upcoming by-elections.

So far, 18 PTI lawmakers have resigned from NA bodies, including Junaid Akbar — who relinquished his role as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee — and Ali Asghar, who stepped down from three committees. Other lawmakers such as Sajid Khan, Shaharyar Afridi, Faisal Amin Gandapur, and Sheikh Waqas Akram have also withdrawn from various committees.

The resignations follow the disqualification of several PTI members by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in connection with the May 9 riots. Sources said Imran Khan has also directed party leaders to quit the Judicial Commission, calling participation in it “ineffective.”

PTI has declared that it will not contest by-elections in constituencies vacated after the disqualifications, terming those disqualified as its “true representatives.” Meanwhile, the ruling PML-N and PPP have announced they will jointly contest the by-polls.
