K-pop supergroup BTS has secured two top positions on Japan’s prestigious Oricon music chart for the first half of the year with their fifth studio album, “ARIRANG,” according to data released on Thursday. The chart tracking period, which spanned from December 8 to June 7, revealed that the critically acclaimed album captured the number one spot on both the physical album ranking chart and the combined album ranking chart, which factors in physical sales, digital downloads, and audio streams. Additionally, “ARIRANG” achieved a strong number three position on the standalone digital album ranking chart during the same timeframe.
The chart-topping success in Japan aligns with widespread global acclaim for the release. “ARIRANG” has been formally recognized as one of the standout musical releases of the first half of this year by prominent international music and pop-culture publications, including Rolling Stone and Complex in the United States, alongside NME and The Telegraph in the United Kingdom. The mid-year Oricon data also highlighted the enduring popularity of other K-pop acts in the Japanese market; South Korean boy bands Enhypen and Tomorrow X Together (TXT) clinched the number 4 and number 9 spots on the combined album ranking chart, and secured the number 4 and number 7 spots respectively on the physical album sales chart.
