Islamabad: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand is scheduled to visit Pakistan this week, marking the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister to Pakistan in nearly two decades. The visit is being seen as an important step toward strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two countries.

According to Global Affairs Canada, Anita Anand will hold high-level meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad. The discussions will focus on expanding bilateral cooperation, increasing trade and investment opportunities, regional security, and strengthening diplomatic engagement.

The Canadian government stated that the visit is part of its broader Indo-Pacific Strategy, aimed at deepening partnerships across the region. Pakistan is considered an important partner in South Asia, particularly in areas such as economic cooperation, regional stability, climate resilience, education, and people-to-people ties.

Officials are also expected to discuss ways to enhance collaboration in business, innovation, and development while exploring new opportunities for Canadian investment in Pakistan.

Following her Pakistan visit, Foreign Minister Anita Anand will travel to the Philippines to participate in regional diplomatic engagements under Canada’s Indo-Pacific outreach.

Diplomatic observers believe the visit could open a new chapter in Pakistan-Canada relations after years of limited high-level exchanges. The meetings are expected to lay the groundwork for closer cooperation on economic, political, and regional issues in the coming years.
