China is strengthening its control over the export of advanced technologies and industrial products, sending a strong message to rival countries that they still depend heavily on Chinese manufacturing.
According to a report published by The New York Times on November 2, 2026, Beijing has introduced plans to tighten export controls on several important technologies, including drones, artificial intelligence (AI) models, solar panel manufacturing equipment and advanced pharmaceutical production processes.
China’s move could make it more difficult for countries such as the United States, India, Japan and European nations to reduce their dependence on Chinese products and technology.
China is also seeking greater control over tunnel-boring machines, rare earth minerals and other strategically important industrial equipment. These products are essential for infrastructure development, renewable energy, defence and modern technology.
