Peshawar: An anti-terrorism court in Peshawar has cancelled the bail of an Afghan refugee arrested on charges of extortion and ordered that he be sent to jail.
The hearing was conducted by ATC Judge Farid Alizai, who dismissed the bail application after hearing arguments from both sides.
According to the prosecution, the accused, identified as Abdul Hafeez, allegedly demanded extortion money from the owner of a well-known restaurant in Peshawar. Prosecutors stated that the suspect contacted the complainant through multiple mobile phone numbers to make the demands.
The prosecution further informed the court that the accused allegedly impersonated a member of the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and issued threats of serious consequences in case of non-payment.
Law enforcement agencies traced the suspect and took him into custody. Following the hearing, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered the accused to be remanded to jail.
