Hyderabad: Speakers at a seminar at Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), Tandojam, emphasized that education is the most effective tool to combat terrorism and highlighted the need for youth to be guided toward responsible use of technology.

Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Altaf Ali Siyal, speaking at the seminar on “Elimination of Extremism and Terrorism” on Thursday, said terrorism worldwide could only be countered through the power of education, which fosters peace and sustainable development. He expressed concern over the declining tolerance among youth and noted that the university was actively promoting co-curricular activities to encourage patience, resilience, and positive engagement among students.

Dr. Siyal added that SAU was not only a centre of excellence in agriculture, environmental sciences, and scientific research, but also played a pivotal role in raising social awareness, promoting education, and instilling ethical values through initiatives like the Students–Teachers Engagement Programme.

Addressing contemporary challenges, he stressed the importance of embracing modern technologies responsibly, warning that irresponsible use could benefit hostile forces, especially amid climate change and emerging global threats. He urged students to report any suspicious activities to university authorities to safeguard national security and public safety.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ismail Kumbhar, Director of University Advancement and Financial Assistance, highlighted the need to equip youth with essential skills to establish lasting peace and sustainable development. He noted that terrorism is not only about guns and explosions but also a psychological disease spreading hatred, mistrust, and division, requiring collective action to address.

Other speakers, including Ms. Sidratul Muntaha Bhatti, Principal of Foundation School Hyderabad, and Dr. Bakht Ali Noonari, emphasized the critical role of awareness and social responsibility among youth in building a peaceful society.
