Islamabad: The federal government has clarified that its decision to keep petrol and high-speed diesel prices unchanged does not amount to giving preferential treatment to any particular sector of the economy.

Responding to criticism over the latest fuel pricing decision, a federal minister said the government is pursuing a balanced economic policy aimed at protecting the interests of all sectors while maintaining macroeconomic stability. He stressed that the decision was taken after carefully reviewing international oil prices, exchange rate movements, and the country’s overall fiscal position.

The minister said that keeping fuel prices unchanged is intended to provide relief to consumers while avoiding additional financial pressure on industries, businesses, and the transport sector. He rejected claims that the government was favoring one segment of the economy over another, adding that all policy decisions are made in the broader national interest.

According to the minister, the government remains committed to ensuring price stability, controlling inflation, and supporting sustainable economic growth. He noted that future fuel price revisions will continue to be based on global petroleum prices, import costs, tax policies, and recommendations from the relevant authorities.

The clarification comes amid public debate over the government’s fuel pricing strategy, with some observers questioning whether certain sectors were receiving indirect benefits. However, the minister insisted that the government’s economic policies are designed to benefit the country as a whole rather than any individual industry.
