Heavy Rain Hits Karachi, PMD Warns of Urban Flooding Across Pakistan

Karachi:
Heavy monsoon showers lashed Karachi on Tuesday morning, bringing long-awaited relief from humid weather but also triggering fears of urban flooding in several areas of the city.

According to details, light rainfall that began late Monday night intensified into heavy downpours by early morning. Areas affected include Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, North Nazimabad, SITE Area, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, and Korangi.

Other parts of the city — including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Federal B Area, Scheme 33, Safora Chowrangi, Malir Cantt, North Karachi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, and Taiser Town — also witnessed intense rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied showers in North Nazimabad and adjoining areas.


PMD Forecast and Warnings

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in northern regions of the country, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, and Galiyat.

Authorities have warned of possible urban flooding in low-lying areas of Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Lahore, Attock, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Nowshera, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, and Thatta due to torrential downpours.

  • Islamabad & Muzaffarabad: 24°C

  • Lahore: 28°C

  • Karachi: 31°C

  • Peshawar: 26°C

  • Quetta: 23°C

  • Gilgit: 18°C

  • Murree: 16°C

Meanwhile, in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), cloudy weather with chances of rain and thunderstorms has been predicted for Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramulla.

Recorded temperatures: Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag & Baramulla: 18°C, Jammu: 25°C, Leh: 10°C, Shopian: 19°C.
