Police in Islamabad have arrested a private school teacher accused of physically assaulting a student for failing to memorize a Quran lesson, after a video of the attack went viral on social media, prompting public outrage.
The incident occurred at a private school in the Kallar Syedan area, where the teacher, identified as Qari Muhammad Akash, allegedly beat student Arman Asif when he could not recall his Quranic verses.
Authorities began investigating after Constable Kamran Yaqoob filed a complaint upon receiving the viral video while on duty. Police confirmed that the accused was taken into custody and charged under laws banning corporal punishment, a punishable offense under Punjab government regulations.
SP Saddar Nabeel Khokhar stated that strict legal action would be taken, adding that the evidence is clear and conclusive.
“Violence against children is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in any form,” Khokhar said, assuring that the suspect will be prosecuted according to the law.
The case has reignited debate over child protection and corporal punishment in educational institutions across Pakistan.
