On July 10, 2025, the Grand Mosque in Makkah hosted its deeply spiritual and time-honored Ghusl‑e‑Kaaba ceremony. As per tradition, the interior walls, floor and door of the Kaaba were ritually cleansed using a fragrant mixture of Zamzam water and premium Ta’if rose water, followed by anointing with oud and other luxurious perfumes .
Approximately 40 litres of this sacred water‑rose blend was used, applied with white cloths by senior dignitaries including the Governor of Makkah, senior Saudi officials, Islamic scholars, prominent foreign envoys, and the key‑holder of the Kaaba . After the cleansing, attendees offered nawafil prayers seeking blessings, peace, and unity for the global Muslim community .
The ceremony followed the prophetic Sunnah and is conducted annually on the 15th of Muharram, marking both a physical and spiritual purification before the new Hijri year . The ritual ritualistically removed the Kiswa around the Kaaba door, lengthening the sacred atmosphere inside the House of Allah. After the cleansing, the Kaaba was perfumed with pure oud, rose water, bukhoor, and other fragrant oils .
This ceremony is not only an act of physical cleanliness but a symbolic gesture of spiritual renewal for Muslims worldwide. It reminds believers of the importance of presenting themselves before God with purity and reverence.
