Karachi ranks sixth among world’s most polluted cities
Karachi has once again been listed among the world’s most polluted cities, securing the sixth position, according to the latest global air quality index. The ranking highlights growing environmental and health concerns in Pakistan’s largest metropolis.
Data from international monitoring agencies revealed that Karachi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed hazardous levels, making outdoor activities unsafe for residents. Experts attribute the worsening air quality to vehicular emissions, industrial waste, open garbage burning, and lack of effective environmental regulations.
Environmentalists warn that prolonged exposure to such high pollution levels can lead to serious respiratory and cardiac issues. They have urged authorities to implement stricter emission controls and launch awareness campaigns to reduce pollution sources.
Earlier, Lahore and Delhi also featured among the world’s top polluted cities, reflecting a broader regional struggle with deteriorating air quality across South Asia.
