Karachiites should keep their umbrellas handy today. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed overcast skies across the port city, with light rain expected in several areas throughout the day.
The current system, moving in from the southwest, has brought a noticeable drop in temperatures. While the city won’t see a monsoon-style deluge, the scattered showers are expected to linger, potentially disrupting traffic during evening commutes.
“It’s a localized system,” a Met Office spokesperson said. “We’re looking at intermittent light rain and drizzle, mainly in the city’s coastal and central districts.”
Humidity levels remain high, keeping the air heavy despite the cloud cover. For a city that typically relies on the sea breeze to mitigate heat, the lack of sunshine today is a welcome reprieve for residents, though the resulting mugginess may offset the comfort of cooler temperatures.
Traffic authorities have issued a standard advisory for motorists. Slick roads, combined with the city’s often-congested arterial routes, increase the risk of minor accidents. They’ve urged drivers to maintain safe following distances and ensure their vehicle lights are operational.
This weather pattern is expected to persist for the next 24 to 48 hours before the clouds begin to clear. For now, the city remains under a gray canopy, with the PMD monitoring the system for any unexpected shifts in intensity.
