LAHORE, August 28, 2025 — The Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday released its written judgment rejecting a petition challenging the federal government’s plan to privatise Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
In the seven-page order authored by Justice Jawad Hassan, the court held that the entire privatisation process fully complied with the Privatisation Commission Ordinance’s Sections 23 and 24, as well as Article 173 of the Constitution. Petitioners had alleged procedural irregularities and a lack of transparency, but the bench found no violation of law.
The judgment emphasized that the Privatisation Commission performed its statutory duties diligently and that the judiciary should refrain from intervening in economic policy, provided legal and constitutional norms are respected. The court concluded that the PIA privatisation was conducted in a fair, transparent, and legally compliant manner.
