Major Progress in Early Detection of Alzheimer’s Through AI Technology

Researchers say that Alzheimer’s disease can now be predicted with nearly 93 percent accuracy with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

‎According to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US state of Massachusetts, the analysis of more than 800 brain scans enabled AI to recognize structural changes in the brain that indicate the onset of Alzheimer’s, the most common type of dementia.

‎These results have emerged after several years of research that showed AI can not only identify early risks of Alzheimer’s but can also help predict the likelihood of the disease and identify patients who may have Alzheimer’s but have not yet been diagnosed.

‎According to experts, if Alzheimer’s can be diagnosed at an early stage with the help of AI, it can give patients and doctors valuable time to prepare better for the disease and possibly slow its progression.

‎The institute’s assistant research professor Benjamin Nefeu said in a statement that the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease is difficult because its symptoms are often considered normal signs of aging.
