KARACHI — Much-awaited monsoon rains lashed Karachi on Friday, bringing heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds across most parts of the metropolis, ARY News reported. The weather system initially entered the city from the direction of the Kirthar Mountains, dumping intense rain over Gulshan-e-Maymar, Manghopir, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal before sweeping across the entire urban area. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), heavy downpours were subsequently recorded in North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Federal B Area, Nooriabad, and near M-9 Kathore. Meanwhile, lighter rainfall was reported in more central and coastal localities, including PECHS, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Nursery, Chanesar Goth, Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road, and the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

The arrival of the monsoon spell was accompanied by immediate infrastructure disruptions, most notably widespread power outages. As the heavy rain hit, as many as 100 K-Electric feeders tripped in rapid succession, leaving large swathes of the city—including Gulshan-e-Maymar and Manghopir—completely without electricity. The PMD has indicated that the current monsoon system brought highly localized heavy downpours driven by shifting wind patterns. Residents across the city are facing the twin challenges of urban flooding risks on major thoroughfares and extended blackouts as utility teams work to restore power to the affected distribution networks.
