KARACHI: Actor Naeema Butt has spoken out against the spread of misinformation on social media after a post falsely attributed a statement to her.
The post featured Naeema’s photograph alongside a quote claiming that she prayed before every dance performance. However, the actor clarified that she had never made the statement.
Naeema directly confronted the account that shared the post, questioning why her picture was being used to circulate misleading information.
In a video message shared on Instagram, the actor also warned her followers about the growing spread of deceptive and inaccurate content online.
“This is the age of deception, but we should not be afraid,” she said, while encouraging people to remain mindful and place their trust in Allah regardless of their profession.
The incident highlights a wider problem faced by public figures, whose photographs can be taken from legitimate sources and paired with statements they never made. Such misleading posts can spread rapidly before their authenticity is checked.
By publicly rejecting the false claim, Naeema also urged her followers to exercise greater caution when consuming and sharing information on social media.
Naeema Butt is known for her performances in dramas including Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, where she played Rubab opposite Fahad Mustafa and Hania Aamir. She has also appeared in Ehd-e-Wafa as Ghazala.
