National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued flood and landslide warnings for parts of Gilgit‑Baltistan (Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Shigar) and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, and Bagh) for the period July 28 to 31, 2025 .
Heavy monsoon rains, intensified by a westerly wave, are expected to hit northern regions starting today and last through the weekend .
These downpours may lead to flash floods and widespread urban and hilly flooding, especially in Bolani, Neelum, Muzaffarabad, and Shigar .
In the Chitral Valley (Buni & Reshun), rainfall along with glacial melting could cause a surge in the Chitral River’s flow. Landslides are likely due to heavy showers in mountainous terrain .
The national monsoon toll has reached 279 deaths and 676 injuries since late June, affecting all provinces—with nine deaths in GB and two in AJK so far .
NDMA has instructed provincial disaster departments (PDMAs) and local authorities to remain alert, mobilize rescue teams, and prepare response machinery in advance .
