No End in Sight: Another Heatwave Predicted to Hit Karachi on May 7

Karachi may be heading into yet another round of dangerous heat, with recent weather reporting saying the city could face multiple heatwaves during May and that another hot spell may build again around May 7. The broader official picture from the Pakistan Meteorological Department is that Karachi and parts of Sindh have already been under heat stress, with temperatures recently forecast to reach around 40°C to above 41°C during the latest surge.

The important point is that the warning is being framed less as a one-day event and more as a pattern. Reporting citing meteorological officials said Karachi could experience two to three heatwaves in May, with temperatures climbing sharply during the first week of the month before easing briefly and then potentially rising again. That is what gives the “no end in sight” angle some weight: the city is not just dealing with one burst of extreme weather, but the possibility of repeated hot spells in quick succession.

At the same time, the exact wording around May 7 should be handled carefully. The strongest sources I found support a broader early-May and repeated-May heatwave risk, while some reporting narrows that down to another likely spell around May 7. So the safest reading is that Karachi faces a continued and possibly renewed heatwave threat around that date, rather than a fully settled standalone alert issued only for May 7.

For residents, the practical advice remains unchanged. Weather officials and public reporting have urged people to avoid direct sun exposure during peak daytime hours, stay hydrated, and limit unnecessary outdoor activity as temperatures remain unusually high. In Karachi, prolonged heat quickly becomes more than a weather issue; it strains public health, daily work, and basic city life, especially for outdoor workers, children, older people, and households without reliable cooling.

So while the city may not have a single official “May 7 only” bulletin in the strongest available material, the larger warning is clear enough: Karachi’s heat danger is not over, and another punishing spell could arrive within days.
