Bollywood actress and dancer Nora Fatehi has come under the spotlight after a Delhi court issued a fresh summons directing her to appear as a prosecution witness in the high-profile Rs 200 crore extortion case linked to Sukesh Chandrashekhar.
According to media reports, Nora was expected to appear before the Rouse Avenue Court on November 2 but did not attend the hearing. Her lawyer sought exemption from her appearance. The court expressed displeasure over her absence and reportedly remarked that her conduct was “not up to the mark,” cautioning that the court should not be taken for granted.
The court has now directed Nora Fatehi to appear on November 6 to record her evidence. Delhi Police informed the court that a notice had been sent to her through email and WhatsApp, and that attempts had also been made to contact her by phone.
What Is the Rs 200 Crore Case About?
The case involves alleged extortion by Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who is accused of impersonating senior government officials while lodged in Delhi’s Rohini Jail. Investigators allege that he extorted approximately Rs 200 crore from Aditi Singh, wife of former Ranbaxy promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh, between 2020 and 2021.
According to the allegations, Chandrashekhar promised to help secure her husband’s release from jail in exchange for money.
Why Is Nora Fatehi Named as a Witness?
Nora Fatehi was previously questioned by Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing regarding her alleged interactions with Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paulose. She has been listed as a prosecution witness in the supplementary chargesheet.
According to her earlier statement to investigators, Nora said that her interactions with Chandrashekhar took place through his wife.
Nora Fatehi has been summoned as a witness in this case. Her appearance as a witness does not mean she has been accused or found guilty of any crime.
The next court hearing is scheduled for November 6, when the proceedings are expected to continue.
