Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute has achieved a significant milestone in the field of transplant medicine by successfully completing 10 liver transplants within 24 hours.
According to PKLI, the organs of only three donors were used to give a new lease on life to nine children and one adult patient. During this period, seven domino and eight auxiliary liver transplants were performed, offering new hope to patients suffering from rare metabolic diseases.
The institute stated that the successful combination of domino and auxiliary liver transplant techniques enabled the effective utilization of limited donor organs, allowing more patients to receive treatment.
This complex and unique medical procedure was carried out by a team of experts under the leadership of Professor Faisal Saud Dar. According to PKLI, all patients have recovered and have been discharged from the hospital to their homes.
Medical experts said that this achievement has increased the prospects of saving more valuable lives in the future, while PKLI has set a new example at the global level in the field of liver transplantation.
Provincial Finance Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman congratulated the PKLI team on this achievement and said that the institute has become a national center for advanced transplantation and medical innovation, bringing recognition to Pakistan at the international level.
