The Indus Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in collaboration with the UK’s University of York has announced a major initiative to tackle diabetes and depression across Pakistan. Under a newly signed agreement between the two institutions, 3,000 clinics will be established nationwide.

‎Professor Abdul Basit, Director of the Indus Diabetes and Endocrinology Center, stated that the center’s mission is to eliminate diabetes from the country. “In partnership with the University of York, we aim to open these clinics to address both diabetes and mental health challenges, particularly depression,” he said.

‎Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Kamran Siddiqui from the University of York emphasized the importance of mental health support for diabetes patients. “We will also provide counseling services to help patients cope with depression,” he said.

‎These 3,000 clinics will primarily be established in underserved areas where hospital facilities are currently unavailable.
