Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a plan to distribute 100,000 laptops to talented students across Pakistan under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme.
Speaking at the International Youth Day ceremony in Islamabad on Tuesday, the premier assured that the initiative will be implemented strictly on merit, with no room for favouritism or nepotism. The scheme covers students from all provinces, the federal capital, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Eligibility Criteria
According to the official guidelines, applicants must be enrolled in recognised public sector universities and pursuing PhD, MS/MPhil, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degrees. The academic requirements include:
Minimum CGPA of 2.80 or 60% marks.
First-year university students must submit their intermediate (HSSC) results.
First-semester MS/PhD students must provide results of their previous degree.
Special Quotas
18% of laptops reserved for students from Balochistan’s higher education institutions.
5% reserved for distance learning students.

Eligible students can submit applications via the Prime Minister’s Digital Youth Hub (DYH) mobile app or by visiting the official PM Youth Programme website at www.pmyp.gov.pk.
The prime minister distributed laptops to high-achieving students at Bahauddin Zakariya University during the launch, emphasising that empowering youth with technology is key to Pakistan’s progress.
