The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has announced new conditions and regulatory requirements for Pakistani students planning to pursue medical and dental education abroad. The updated guidelines are aimed at ensuring that students enroll only in recognized institutions and meet the standards required for future medical practice in Pakistan.
Under the revised policy, students must obtain a PMDC registration certificate before joining a foreign medical or dental institution. Authorities have emphasized that students should carefully verify whether their chosen university is recognized by the relevant regulatory body and listed under approved international medical institutions.
The new conditions also require students to meet academic eligibility criteria, including the required marks in intermediate education and MDCAT where applicable. In addition, PMDC has stressed that foreign medical programs must fulfill international educational standards, including minimum study hours, attendance requirements, and recognition by accredited medical education bodies.
According to the council, graduates returning from foreign institutions will still be required to pass the National Registration Examination (NRE) before obtaining full registration to practice medicine in Pakistan. Officials say these measures are intended to protect students from unrecognized programs and maintain the quality of medical education and healthcare services in the country.
