A dangerous outbreak of the polio virus has emerged in Pakistan, prompting the Prime Minister to call a special meeting.
Environmental samples from over 75 districts in the country have confirmed the presence of the polio virus. In light of this situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned all four Chief Ministers and Chief Secretaries to personally attend a meeting at the Prime Minister’s House.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, will be held on August 27 at the Prime Minister’s Office, where detailed reviews of polio eradication measures and performance will be conducted.
The most dangerous strain of the polio virus has been detected in environmental samples from four areas of the country, including Diamer, South Waziristan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
According to the NEOC, a national anti-polio campaign will run across the country from September 1 to 7, during which 28 million children under the age of five will be administered polio drops. The campaign will be conducted in 99 districts across all provinces and regions.
