The Punjab Textbook Board has announced that three subjects under the Single National Curriculum (SNC) — History, Geography, and Islamiat Workbook for grades 6, 7, and 8 — will be printed in Urdu starting from the next academic year.
Officials said the decision comes after continuous requests from students and teachers who faced difficulties studying these subjects in English. Many students, they noted, struggled with comprehension and had to rely on Urdu translation guides available in the market.
According to the board, the language barrier had negatively affected students’ exam performance, as limited English proficiency prevented them from fully understanding the material.
By publishing the textbooks in Urdu, the board aims to make learning more accessible and equitable, helping students perform better academically and engage more effectively with the curriculum.
The move has been widely appreciated by education experts, who see it as a positive step toward inclusive and language-friendly education across Punjab’s schools.
