ISLAMABAD:
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene on June 15 to sight the moon of Muharram, marking the beginning of the Islamic month and the new Hijri year.
According to officials, zonal and district-level meetings will also be held simultaneously across the country to collect moon sighting reports from various regions. The final announcement regarding the sighting of the Muharram moon will be made after receiving testimonies from different parts of Pakistan.
Meteorological experts are expected to brief the committee on weather conditions and visibility prospects, which play an important role in determining the likelihood of moon sighting.
If the moon is sighted, the new Islamic month of Muharram will begin the following day, while in case of non-sighting, the current month will complete 30 days.
The committee’s decision will determine the official start of the Islamic calendar month, which holds significant religious importance, particularly for the Muslim community.
