MOSCOW, October 14, 2026: Russia expects to sign its first contracts to supply diesel fuel to the United States within the next few days, Russian officials have said, following Washington’s decision to ease restrictions on Russian diesel exports.
Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin for economic cooperation, said Moscow was in close contact with American officials and that negotiations were moving quickly.
The proposed arrangement follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump that Russia would supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to the United States and global markets. Further shipments have been discussed for the coming months.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said negotiations were underway to finalise supply contracts, including arrangements to ensure deliveries despite remaining sanctions-related restrictions.
The agreement is intended in part to ease pressure on US diesel prices, which have been elevated. However, energy analysts have questioned whether the expected volumes would be sufficient to make a significant difference to American fuel prices.
The deal has also drawn criticism from Ukraine and some Western politicians, who argue that easing restrictions could provide Russia with additional revenue amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
