The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Safar moon in Pakistan on Tuesday evening. The crescent was spotted across multiple regions, officially marking the start of the new lunar month.
Following the announcement by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the first day of Safar will be observed on Wednesday, September 4.
The decision followed testimony from various zonal committees and reports from members of the public across the country. Meteorological officials noted that the weather conditions in most areas remained clear, facilitating the sighting of the new crescent.
Safar is the second month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. While it holds various cultural significance across the Muslim world, its commencement marks the official progression of the lunar year toward the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal.
With the first day confirmed for Wednesday, the dates for subsequent events in the lunar calendar are now set for the coming weeks.
