Muzaffarabad: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership over what it describes as “last-minute promises” made to voters ahead of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections.
The criticism comes after PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and other senior party leaders announced a series of commitments during election rallies, including development projects, economic relief measures, and initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and public services in AJK. The PML-N maintains that these pledges reflect its commitment to addressing the region’s long-standing challenges and improving the quality of life for Kashmiris.
PPP leaders, however, argued that the promises were politically motivated and timed solely to influence voters before polling. They questioned why such commitments had not been implemented earlier despite the PML-N’s role in the federal government. The party insisted that the people of AJK were more interested in tangible results than campaign announcements.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also reiterated his party’s commitment to protecting the constitutional, political, and economic rights of the people of AJK. Addressing public gatherings, he accused the PML-N of attempting to gain electoral advantage through pre-election pledges while overlooking key governance issues affecting the region.
The PML-N rejected the criticism, stating that its development agenda is based on long-term planning rather than election rhetoric. Party leaders said their vision focuses on economic growth, better public services, and greater opportunities for the youth of Azad Kashmir.
Political analysts believe the exchange of accusations reflects the increasingly competitive nature of the AJK election campaign, with both the PPP and PML-N seeking to secure public support. Observers describe the contest as one of the most closely watched political battles in the region, with the campaigns of Nawaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari dominating the electoral landscape.
With polling approaching, both parties have intensified their campaigns, promising improved governance, development, and greater prosperity for the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
