Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Sharjeel Inam Memon has formally approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to address a campaign linking him and his son to the murder of Mir Raza Ali.

Memon filed a complaint against several social media accounts and individuals, alleging a coordinated effort to spread misinformation. He claims the allegations are part of a targeted smear campaign designed to damage his reputation and stir political unrest.

The murder of Mir Raza Ali, who was killed in a targeted attack, has triggered intense speculation across social media platforms. Anonymous accounts have repeatedly suggested that the minister’s family had a hand in the incident, citing unverified connections and motive.

Memon’s legal team submitted a dossier of screenshots and account handles to the NCCIA, labeling the claims as “baseless, malicious, and defamatory.” The minister maintains that he has no connection to the deceased and is demanding a forensic audit of the accounts responsible for the viral allegations.

For the NCCIA, the challenge lies in the rapid spread of the misinformation. While the agency has launched a preliminary inquiry, tracking the origins of anonymous digital smear campaigns remains a complex task in Pakistan’s current political climate.

The minister’s move signals a shift in how provincial leadership is responding to digital vitriol. Rather than issuing standard press releases, Memon is leveraging federal investigation channels to force platforms to identify the individuals behind the posts.

“This isn’t just about my name,” Memon told reporters after filing the complaint. “It’s about the weaponization of social media to frame people for violent crimes without a shred of evidence.”

The investigation is ongoing, and the NCCIA has yet to issue a formal statement on potential suspects or the timeline for tracing the origin of the claims. Until the agency identifies the culprits, the accusations continue to circulate, leaving the minister to fight a battle against digital narratives that have already reached millions.
