The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has suspended the results of the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, bowing to mounting pressure from candidates and reports of procedural flaws. The move halts the recruitment process for dozens of provincial administrative posts, throwing the career paths of thousands of aspirants into uncertainty. The decision arrives after widespread allegations surfaced regarding the integrity of the screening process.

Candidates pointed to discrepancies in the marking scheme and potential leaks in the question bank, triggering protests outside the SPSC headquarters in Hyderabad. By late Thursday, the commission issued a formal notification confirming the suspension, citing the need for an “internal audit” to address the grievances. For the hundreds of thousands of youth in Sindh, the CCE is the primary gateway to stable, high-ranking government employment.

This year’s cycle—already delayed by bureaucratic hurdles—was viewed as a critical opportunity to fill long-vacant positions in the provincial bureaucracy. The current freeze leaves these roles empty and the administrative machinery at a standstill. “We worked for two years for this chance, only to have the goalposts moved,” said one candidate who requested anonymity for fear of professional retaliation.

“The commission hasn’t explained exactly what went wrong they just pulled the rug out from under us.” The SPSC has yet to announce a timeline for the audit or a date for when the results might be released. Sources within the commission suggest that a high-level inquiry committee is being formed to review the digital and physical records of the examination.

However, skepticism remains high. Critics argue that internal probes rarely yield the transparency needed to restore public trust in an institution that has faced similar controversies in the past. The Sindh government has maintained a cautious distance from the fallout, with officials stating that the SPSC operates as an autonomous body.

Despite this, the political cost is rising. Opposition leaders are already calling for a judicial inquiry, labeling the commission’s failure a “systemic collapse” of meritocracy in the province.

The suspension of the CCE 2024 is not just a logistical delay; it is a signal of deep-seated dysfunction within the recruitment process. Until the SPSC provides a clear, evidence-based account of the irregularities, the credibility of the entire examination cycle remains in doubt.

Thousands of candidates are now left waiting for a resolution that, as of today, has no deadline.
