The Punjab Bar Council has suspended the licenses of two lawyers following a viral video that showed them forcing an accused individual to issue an apology inside a courtroom. The incident, which took place in a district court, sparked immediate outrage among the legal fraternity and the general public, prompting the disciplinary committee to intervene.

The footage shows the two lawyers surrounding the accused, demanding he recant his previous statements and offer an unconditional apology. The accused, appearing visibly distressed, complied under the pressure of the lawyers who stood over him. The video circulated rapidly on social media, drawing sharp criticism from senior legal experts who labeled the act a “gross violation” of judicial decorum.

The Punjab Bar Council issued the suspension orders late Tuesday night. The notification explicitly states that the lawyers’ conduct brought disrepute to the profession and undermined the sanctity of the court. Both individuals have been barred from practicing law until the completion of an internal inquiry.

“Legal representation is not a license for intimidation,” a senior member of the bar council told reporters during a brief press briefing. He confirmed that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and submit a report within ten days.

While the lawyers involved have maintained that they were merely seeking justice for their client, the Bar Council’s stance remains firm. Forcing an accused to apologize—or any form of extra-judicial coercion—strips the legal process of its credibility.

The incident highlights a growing tension regarding the conduct of legal practitioners in lower courts, where power dynamics often overshadow procedural fairness. As the inquiry begins, the legal community is watching closely to see if this suspension serves as a genuine deterrent or merely a temporary measure.

The accused has not yet filed a formal police complaint, but the Bar Council has initiated these proceedings *suo motu* to preserve the integrity of the institution. For now, the two lawyers remain sidelined, their future in the profession resting on the findings of the upcoming inquiry.
