A US aerospace company has announced plans to acquire a satellite earth station in Cornwall as part of efforts to expand its deep space communications network.
The company said it will purchase Goonhilly Earth Station in Helston in a £37 million deal aimed at strengthening lunar and deep space communication capabilities.
The acquisition includes the station’s 44 antennas along with its advanced deep space communication infrastructure, considered one of the leading private networks of its kind.
The facility is expected to play a key role in supporting future lunar exploration missions and international space programs, including upcoming Artemis-related initiatives.
Officials involved in the project said the integration will help build a more unified and resilient global communications system for space missions.
They added that demand from clients has increased for a single, reliable, and integrated solution for space communication needs.
The deal is expected to be completed later this year, marking a significant step in the commercialization of deep space communication services.
