At least eight terrorists were killed during a joint intelligence-based operation carried out by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday. During the operation, one police officer embraced martyrdom while another officer was injured in the exchange of fire.
According to police officials, the operation was launched in the Miryan police station area after intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists. Security forces used modern surveillance technology, including drone monitoring, and cordoned off the area before launching the raid.
During the intense gun battle, eight terrorists were killed, while several others reportedly sustained injuries and managed to escape. One injured police officer was shifted to a hospital for treatment. Officials also recovered and safely defused an improvised explosive device (IED) during the operation.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed praised the bravery of the police and CTD personnel and announced rewards for the team involved in the successful operation. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyred officer and appreciated the efforts of the security forces in countering terrorism.
